Oregon Man Threatens to Execute Senator

⏱ 2 min read

PORTLAND, Ore. – A Woodburn man is facing federal charges for a voicemail so direct, it reads like a hit order. Donald Leroy Smith Jr., 51, allegedly left a message for a U.S. Senator on November 12th, 2025, vowing to “kill you,” declaring the Senator “need[ed] to be dead,” and promising to “put a bullet in your head.”

Smith appeared in federal court today and was released pending further proceedings. The feds aren’t saying much beyond that.

The investigation is a full-agency affair, pulling in the FBI, Capitol Police, Secret Service, Postal Inspectors, Oregon State Police, and the Woodburn PD. First Assistant U.S. Attorney William M. Narus and Assistant U.S. Attorney James A. Kilcup are handling the prosecution.

As always, an information is just an accusation, and Smith is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
