Five Philadelphia stick-up men are staring down life sentences after a federal jury found them guilty of a brutal, years-long carjacking spree. Mikal McCracken, Amin Muse, Aleem Abdul-Hakim, Dean Fosque, and Kavon Coleman ran a coordinated operation since February 2022, hitting at least 29 victims in and around Philly before the feds finally caught up. The crew didn’t just want cars; they wanted quick cash, shipping the stolen vehicles overseas and showing zero regard for anyone who got in their way. The indictment came down in July 2024, but the damage was already done.
The most chilling part? The crew wasn’t afraid to kill. McCracken, Muse, and Abdul-Hakim were convicted in the February 2022 carjacking and murder of a former Marine. As if that wasn’t enough, the same trio plotted to eliminate a witness to one of their crimes – another life tragically cut short. McCracken, the ringleader, was tied to 20 additional armed carjackings, firing shots in five of them, even hitting the same victim *twice* a month apart.
Muse wasn’t far behind, linked to eight more armed carjackings with at least one victim shot at. Fosque admitted to nine carjackings, three involving gunfire. Even Coleman, the lowest on the totem pole, participated in four attempted or completed carjackings. This wasn’t random street crime; prosecutors painted a picture of a cold, calculating crew focused on profit above all else.
While official sentencing dates haven’t been announced, the charges carry stiff penalties. McCracken, Muse, and Abdul-Hakim face life behind bars on the ‘carjacking resulting in death’ counts alone. The jury’s verdict sends a brutal message to anyone thinking about running a similar operation: Philly streets aren’t a playground for violent thugs.
