Reidsville Gunman Gets 10 Years

⏱ 3 min read

Lindsey Hayes, 41, of Reidsville, North Carolina, will spend the next decade in federal prison for a January 7, 2025, shooting. Hayes wasn’t just making empty threats; he escalated a domestic dispute into a reckless gun attack, firing multiple rounds near an apartment building on Marcellus Street.

Reidsville Police Department officers raced to the scene after 911 calls reported a heated argument. Witnesses told cops Hayes was hammering on the door of his child’s mother, screaming threats to “shoot this shit up” if she didn’t open up. Surveillance footage captured the entire ordeal, showing Hayes initially confronting the woman verbally.

Hayes briefly walked away, then returned armed with a handgun. He used the weapon to pound on the door, then retreated to his white SUV. But he wasn’t finished. Video shows him slowing down, extending his left arm out the window, and unleashing a volley of shots in the direction of the building – muzzle flash and smoke painting a clear picture of the assault.

Federal prosecutors took over the case, building a solid case based on the evidence gathered by Reidsville PD. Hayes eventually pleaded guilty to possessing ammunition as a convicted felon. Today, Chief U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Eagles handed down a 120-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release. A message sent: playing with guns while a prohibited person comes with a steep price in the Middle District of North Carolina.
