Ruben Manuel Barraza Reyes, 26, is in federal custody after investigators say he was using the Telegram app to trade depraved images and videos of child abuse. The case, which surfaced in August 2025, originated in Alaska but quickly led authorities to Reyes in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He’s now facing federal charges for receiving and distributing the illegal content.

The bust started with a flagged Telegram user actively sharing child abuse material. That connection quickly unspooled to Reyes. Within 48 hours, investigators say, Reyes and the other user had swapped “dozens” of obscene files, including drawings depicting the sexual abuse of children. It wasn’t long before agents were raiding his home.

A search of Reyes’ residence and cell phone revealed even more of the horrific material. Adding to his troubles, investigators also discovered Reyes is unlawfully present in the United States, meaning he faces potential immigration violations on top of the child exploitation charges. He’s being held while awaiting court action.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Dewhurst is prosecuting the case, which falls under “Project Safe Childhood,” a national initiative dedicated to combating online child exploitation. The FBI is leading the investigation.
