Baltimore, Maryland – A federal judge in the Western District of Missouri has sentenced Gedeon ‘Papa Kwam’ Agbeyome, a 31-year-old illegal alien from Togo, to six years in prison for his role in a money laundering conspiracy that resulted in nearly $3 million in losses. U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Maddox also ordered one year of supervised release following his release from prison.
Agbeyome, who was residing in Silver Spring, Maryland at the time of his arrest, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit money laundering and aggravated identity theft. According to court documents, Agbeyome was part of a ring that moved large sums of money through various bank accounts to disguise its origin.
The scheme involved the use of stolen identities and forged documents to circumvent financial institution security measures. Federal prosecutors revealed that the money was believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking activities, making this case particularly significant in the ongoing fight against organized crime.
During his sentencing hearing, Judge Maddox cited Agbeyome’s role as a key facilitator in the conspiracy and emphasized the severity of the offense. ‘The illegal movement of such large sums of money has far-reaching consequences for financial stability and public safety,’ he stated.
This conviction comes as federal law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on financial crimes, particularly those involving illegal aliens. The feds have been stepping up their efforts to identify and apprehend individuals who exploit the financial system for criminal gain.
Agbeyome will now begin serving his sentence at a federal correctional facility. His conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal aliens involved in serious criminal activities and underscores the importance of ongoing law enforcement efforts in combating such crimes.”
