Vail Man Admits Meth Distribution, Faces Decade-Plus Behind Bars

SIOUX CITY, IA – Another small-town dealer caught pushing poison. Jeffrey Duane Krowiorz, II, 24, of Vail, Iowa, admitted in federal court March 26, 2013, that he possessed with intent to distribute methamphetamine. This isn’t Krowiorz’s first dance with the law; he was twice convicted in 2007 of possessing ingredients used to *make* the stuff, suggesting a long-running commitment to the meth trade.

According to court documents, on September 28, 2012, Krowiorz was found to be in possession of over 18 grams of *actual* (pure) methamphetamine – a significant amount for street-level distribution. He didn’t exactly cooperate with law enforcement, attempting to flee on foot when officers approached him regarding an outstanding warrant. A short chase later, he was apprehended.

The search revealed the source of his supply: three separate baggies of methamphetamine cleverly hidden inside a body spray container that had been modified into a makeshift storage compartment. It’s a pathetic attempt at concealment, but it speaks to the desperation of those involved in this filth. The Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement, Spirit Lake Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations jointly investigated the case.

Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde is prosecuting the case. Krowiorz, currently in the custody of the United States Marshal, will remain jailed pending sentencing before United States District Court Judge Donald E. O’Brien. A presentence report will be prepared before a sentencing date is set.

This conviction carries serious weight. Krowiorz faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, and a possible life sentence. Beyond incarceration, he could be hit with a staggering $8,000,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and at least eight years of supervised release after he eventually gets out—if he ever does.

Court file information is publicly available at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl. The case file number is 12-4098. Another dealer off the streets, but the pipeline remains open. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and expose the rot at the heart of Iowa’s drug trade.
