YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Christopher Helmick, 41, will spend the next 23 years and three months behind bars after admitting to a depraved obsession with child pornography and exploiting vulnerable girls online. U.S. District Judge Christopher A. Boyko sentenced Helmick yesterday after he pleaded guilty in December 2025 to receiving and distributing obscene material involving minors, and possessing CSAM.

A July 2024 raid on Helmick’s Youngstown home turned up a digital warehouse of horror: 1,898 images and 848 videos depicting the sexual abuse of babies and the torture of prepubescent children. But the depravity didn’t stop at possession. Investigators found Helmick actively using social media chat groups to trade this filth with other predators.

The investigation revealed a chilling pattern of grooming. Helmick targeted underage girls on social media, befriending them and then showering them with money – using his own credit card to buy sex toys and lingerie. He wasn’t just receiving images; he was actively soliciting nude photos from these children, and sending them explicit pictures of himself in return.

The FBI’s Youngstown Resident Agency, along with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, led the investigation. Helmick will also serve 10 years of supervised release after his prison term and is ordered to pay $63,500 in restitution. This case is part of the Justice Department’s Project Safe Childhood, a national effort to crack down on child sexual exploitation.
