2.1M Illicit Vapes Seized Across US in Major Sweep

ATF agents and the U.S. Marshals Service have scored a major victory in the fight against illegal e-cigarettes, seizing more than two million unauthorized vaping products from distributors and retailers across seven states.

The massive sweep targeted flavored e-cigarettes, or vapes, which are often smuggled into the country and sold near schools and military bases, putting young people and service members at risk.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi called it a national security issue. “These dangerous vapes are putting our kids and service members in danger,” she said. “We will prosecute anyone participating in the illegal sale of these products.”

The seizures were part of an operation that included U.S. Marshals, ATF agents, and other law enforcement partners. They targeted five warehouse distribution centers and six retail locations across the country.

Among those seized was Tampa Vapor, a Florida company, and its owner, Michael R. Synychak. The Department of Justice also filed civil injunctive actions against Progressive Retail Inc., doing business as VR Vape in Miami, and its owner, who are accused of marketing adulterated and misbranded tobacco products.

U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros emphasized the importance of enforcing federal laws and regulations to protect consumers. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to ensure illegal products never enter the stream of commerce,” he said.
