New York – The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has launched a probe into the tragic death of Eric Davis, who met his end on December 19 following an encounter with Rochester Police Department (RPD) officers in Monroe County.
The night of December 19 saw Davis’ life cut short after an exchange of gunfire with RPD personnel. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an attempted break-in and found Davis at the scene. The situation escalated quickly as Davis opened fire on the officers, prompting them to return fire. After a chase, Davis was ultimately shot dead by officers.

Pursuant to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI is tasked with assessing such incidents involving police or peace officers who may have caused a death by act or omission, whether on-duty or off-duty, and regardless of the decedent’s status. If an officer is deemed potentially responsible, OSI conducts a thorough investigation.
The preliminary facts of the case are subject to change as the investigation unfolds. The Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation remains committed to uncovering all the pertinent details surrounding this tragic incident.
