Letitia James vs. Trump’s First 100 Days: A Legal Battle for Rights

New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a resounding statement on the first 100 days of the Trump administration, revealing a relentless campaign against its illegal and unconstitutional actions. Since January 20, AG James has filed 15 lawsuits and 22 amicus briefs in a fight to protect New Yorkers.

“We will not allow this administration to trample our Constitution,” James declared, underscoring her commitment to safeguarding fundamental rights and critical services. Her legal efforts have successfully blocked several Trump administration policies, from ending birthright citizenship to cutting medical research funds.

The attorney general’s office has been at the forefront of legal challenges, including a lawsuit to block President Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship, which was upheld by the First Circuit. James also led a successful effort to restore billions in federal funding that had been frozen by the administration, securing a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction.

James has not shied away from high-stakes litigation. She secured a preliminary injunction against Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team when they tried to access sensitive Treasury systems. Another victory came on April 5, when she permanently blocked NIH reimbursement rate cuts for biomedical research.

In March, James joined forces to block teacher pipeline grants totaling $600 million, and she sued the Trump administration over mass firings of federal workers without cause. The attorney general’s office also fought against dismantling the Department of Education and secured a court order restoring $11 billion in public health funding that had been slashed.

On April 3, James sued President Trump over an executive order aimed at controlling elections. She has shown no signs of slowing down, vowing to stand in the way of any constitutional abuse by the administration.
