Drizly Tip Theft: Workers Can Now Claim $4M

NEW YORK – The sweet smell of profit at the now-defunct alcohol delivery platform Drizly masked a bitter reality for its drivers: stolen tips. New York Attorney General Letitia James is finally cutting checks, opening a claims portal for $4 million in restitution for delivery workers shortchanged by the Uber-owned company. The money represents tips Drizly collected from customers but failed to pass on to the people actually doing the work.

The Attorney General’s office found Drizly actively encouraged tipping, leading customers to believe 100% of those gratuities would go to drivers. A bald-faced lie. Instead, those tips landed in the pockets of store owners, with no guarantee they’d ever see the light of day – or reach the drivers who earned them. James announced the initial recovery of $4 million last year, and now, after a lengthy process, workers can finally file claims to get their due.

“Delivery workers are essential to our communities and deserve to be compensated fairly,” said Attorney General James in a statement. “I was proud to secure this settlement to ensure that those who were shortchanged by Drizly’s practices would receive the tips they rightfully earned. I urge all eligible workers to file their claims and get the money that they are owed.” Don’t hold your breath for an apology from Uber, though. They’ve remained largely silent throughout this mess.

The $4 million will be distributed to eligible drivers who made deliveries for stores using Drizly between January 1, 2018, and August 31, 2023. The OAG tapped Simpluris, an outside firm, to handle the distribution. The deadline to submit a claim is July 15, 2025. You can find the official claims portal at www.NYDrizlySettlement.com. The OAG says they’ve already sent out notices via mail, email, and text to drivers they’ve identified as potentially eligible, starting April 7, 2025. But if you think you’re owed money and haven’t received a notice, don’t wait – file a claim online.

Beware of vultures. Attorney General James is warning drivers about potential scams. Don’t share your personal or financial information with anyone promising to help you file a claim. For legitimate assistance, contact Simpluris directly: 1-866-675-2754 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET) or info@NYDrizlySettlement.com. This isn’t a handout; it’s stolen money being returned. And in a city where every dollar counts, drivers deserve every penny.

This settlement should serve as a warning to other gig economy companies: exploiting workers and pocketing their tips won’t fly in New York. Attorney General James has proven she’s willing to fight for those who are cheated, and she’s sending a clear message – transparency and fair treatment of workers aren’t optional, they’re the law. For more information and to file a claim, head to www.NYDrizlySettlement.com before the July 15th deadline.
