Miller Gets 35 Years for Child Porn Distribution

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Jamison Miller, a 41-year-old resident of Mason City, Iowa, will spend the next 35 years of his life behind bars after being sentenced for the distribution of child pornography. The sentence, handed down October 16, 2014, by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade, reflects the severity of his crimes and a troubling history of similar offenses.

Miller pleaded guilty on July 3, 2014, to one count of distribution of child pornography, admitting to actively sharing illicit materials between September 2012 and April 2013. This wasn’t Miller’s first encounter with the law regarding this horrific material; he was previously convicted of possession of child pornography back in 2000. The repeat offense clearly weighed heavily on the judge’s decision.

The 420-month prison sentence isn’t the end of the legal ramifications for Miller. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and will face a 20-year term of supervised release upon his eventual release. Furthermore, Miller will be required to fully comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements – a necessary measure to protect potential future victims.

The investigation was a collaborative effort, led by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel, and involved the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These agencies worked diligently to build a case against Miller and bring him to justice.
