Election Fraud Task Force Mobilizes in Georgia

As polls prepare to open across Georgia, federal authorities are locking in for a high-stakes battle against election fraud. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia has activated its Election Day Program, appointing Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Brian Tanner as the District Election Officer to spearhead investigations into voter fraud and civil rights violations during the November 8, 2016, general election.

Tanner will operate as the central enforcer of federal election law, monitoring complaints of ballot tampering, voter intimidation, and illegal ballot marking. His appointment follows a direct order from U.S. Attorney Edward J. Tarver, who vowed to respond “promptly and aggressively” to any attempt to corrupt the democratic process. The Southern District, which includes Savannah, Augusta, and Brunswick, will have boots on the ground and phones manned throughout election day.

Federal law explicitly bans acts like impersonating voters, stuffing ballot boxes, altering vote counts, and coercing voters at polling places. The Justice Department emphasized that tactics like aggressive voter challenging, unauthorized videotaping, or unsanctioned ballot assistance — often disguised as ‘election integrity’ measures — may constitute federal violations. Voters have the right to cast their ballots free from fear, fraud, or manipulation.

To ensure rapid response, the public is being urged to report suspicious activity directly to AUSA Tanner, who will be on duty while polls are open. He can be reached at 912-652-4422. Simultaneously, FBI field offices in Savannah, Brunswick, Augusta, and Statesboro will have agents on standby, accessible via local hotlines including 912-790-3100 and 706-722-3702.

Complaints can also bypass local channels and go straight to the Civil Rights Division’s Voting Section in Washington, DC. Reports may be filed by phone at 1-800-253-3931 or (202) 307-2767, by fax, email to voting.section@usdoj.gov, or through an official complaint form online at justice.gov/crt/complaint/votintake/index.php. Every tip will be vetted for criminal patterns or coordinated interference.

“The franchise is the cornerstone of American democracy,” Tarver warned. “Those who seek to corrupt it will be brought to justice.” With federal prosecutors, FBI agents, and civil rights enforcers all on high alert, the DOJ is sending a clear message: Election fraud won’t slide — not in Georgia, not anywhere.
