SIOUX FALLS, SD – Robert Wolfe Jr., 45, of Sisseton, South Dakota, is headed to federal prison after a judge slapped him with a two-and-a-half-year sentence for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down the sentence this past March 13th.

Roberts County deputies raided Wolfe’s place back in April 2024 and turned up a Remington bolt-action rifle. Problem was, Wolfe already had a felony conviction – a 2014 bust for possessing a controlled substance – meaning he wasn’t legally allowed to own a gun.

Wolfe pleaded guilty in November of last year, and was immediately taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. He’ll serve 2.5 years, followed by three years of supervised release. The feds also seized the rifle and tacked on a $100 fine for the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The investigation was a joint effort by the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce handled the prosecution.

The feds are framing this case within “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide push to target cartels and transnational criminal organizations – and, apparently, guys like Wolfe who shouldn’t have guns.
