LAS VEGAS – Jason Roon, a repeat offender, is headed to federal prison for 11 years after pleading guilty to running meth and fentanyl and hoarding guns he wasn’t legally allowed to own. Judge Richard Boulware handed down the 132-month sentence Monday, less than the 151 months prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney’s Office requested.
According to court papers, Roon, 30s, was peddling at least 50 grams of methamphetamine between mid-September and early October 2022. A raid on his Vegas home on October 5th turned up a stash of 606.5 grams of meth, along with “owe” sheets – basically, a ledger of who owed him money for drugs.
But the drugs weren’t the only problem. Cops also found an armory: two AR-15 rifles, a .22, five handguns (including one 9mm with the serial number scratched off – a so-called “ghost gun”), and a pile of ammunition.
Roon’s rap sheet isn’t short. He’s been convicted of drug offenses in both Los Angeles and Ventura County, California, frequently while armed. Those prior convictions made possessing any of those firearms a federal felony.
The case was a joint effort by the DEA, FBI, and the Las Vegas Metro Police. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah spearheaded the prosecution, with support from the FBI and DEA heads in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
