AG James Launches Election Protection Hotline for November Vote

New York – In a move to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming general election, Attorney General Letitia James has launched an Election Protection Hotline for voters facing challenges during November’s polls. The hotline will be operational from October 25th through November 5th.

Attorney General James emphasized that ‘Our right to vote is the foundation of our democracy,’ and her office stands ready to assist any voter encountering difficulties, whether with absentee ballots, early mail ballots, or in-person voting.

The hotline, accessible at (866) 390-2992, will offer guidance between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM from October 25th through November 5th, and on Election Day, November 4th, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Voters can also submit a complaint online for assistance.

The OAG has been managing this hotline since 2012, processing thousands of complaints and collaborating with local election officials to address voter concerns. The office has actively fought against voter registration purges and ensured equitable early voting access.

Registered voters are guaranteed accessible elections; polls must remain open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Election Day, and voters in line at closing time must be allowed to vote. All registered voters have the right to vote without coercion or intimidation.

The OAG will respond to election complaints under various statutes it enforces, including the New York Voting Rights Act. The hotline is part of a larger effort by the Voting Rights Section, led by Chief Lindsay McKenzie and Special Counsel Bethany Perskie, to ensure fair and free elections for all New Yorkers.
