Chicago Co-Plotters Guilty: Plot to Kill US Troops Exposed

Chicago, AL – A chilling plot to murder or maim American soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan was thwarted when Zubair Ahmed and his cousin Khaleel Ahmed pleaded guilty in the Northern District of Ohio.

The duo faced a shocking revelation: their conspiracy charge for providing material support to terrorists. Both face up to 15 years behind bars and a quarter-million-dollar fine.

Starting in April 2004, the Ahmeds were plotting overseas travel to carry out their heinous plan. They even traveled to Cairo, Egypt, with deadly intent. Back home, they sought firearms training and counter-surveillance skills.

The FBI’s relentless pursuit exposed their code-words and foreign-language communications, leading to their arrests in 2007. Deputy Assistant Attorney General for National Security, Matthew Olsen, emphasized the importance of ongoing vigilance against extremist plots. This case is a stark reminder that terror threats are real and law enforcement is vigilant.
