Christopher Knight, 47, a former guard at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philly, admitted today he enjoyed turning inmates’ lives into hell. Between January and March of 2023, Knight repeatedly blasted helpless prisoners with pepper spray – after they were already handcuffed, subdued, or simply not a threat. Now, he’s facing up to 90 years in federal prison.
Court records reveal Knight didn’t just spray and pray. One inmate was getting gassed while writing on a piece of paper. Another while being escorted by another guard. In multiple instances, Knight continued spraying even after inmates were restrained and clearly in agony, and also physically assaulted them. It wasn’t about control, it was about cruelty.
But the pain wasn’t enough. Knight then meticulously falsified use-of-force reports, scrubbing away any evidence of his brutality and concocting justifications for his attacks. He tried to cover his tracks, but the FBI, with assistance from the Philadelphia Department of Prisons, peeled back the layers of lies.
Knight copped a plea today, acknowledging his crimes. Sentencing is scheduled for July 15th. He’ll have plenty of time to reflect on his actions, assuming he gets anything less than the maximum penalty.
