HOUSTON — Two illegal aliens have been locked up for their deadly drunk driving offenses, part of a relentless sweep by ICE Houston targeting dangerous offenders on the streets. Enrique Acevedo Barocio, 27, and Manuel Neri Mendoza, 37, were both arrested in February after causing fatalities while impaired.
These recent arrests come hot on the heels of 21 other illegal aliens convicted of intoxicated manslaughter and 243 others with three or more DWI convictions during President Trump’s first year back in office. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston Acting Field Office Director Gabriel Martinez called it a tragic reminder of the dangers posed by drunk drivers who are here illegally.
Mendoza attempted to flee the scene of his most recent accident, leaving a 3-year-old child and their deceased mother in the aftermath. ICE Houston has arrested nearly 100 illegal aliens who have fled the scene of accidents over the past year. Martinez blasted officials who demonize law enforcement, saying such rhetoric encourages aliens to evade arrest.
Among the other criminal illegal aliens removed by ICE Houston last year were Samuel Valenzuela-Martinez, a five-time deported offender with three DWI convictions and one for hit-and-run; Jose Jaudencio Coj Pocop, a repeat offender from Guatemala with convictions for intoxicated manslaughter, DWI, and assault; and Leticia Caballero Guadarrama, a six-time removed alien with six DWI convictions.
ICE Houston’s relentless pursuit of drunk drivers is part of the agency’s broader efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and ensure public safety. The agency remains committed to removing those who pose a threat to communities across the country.
