East St. Louis, IL – A chilling sentence has been meted out to Timothy Davis, Jr., 47, as he was sentenced in federal district court to a whopping 37 months in federal prison for his brazen gun and drug crimes.
Davis’ criminal rap sheet now reads even darker with this recent conviction for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Distribution of a Controlled Substance. The East St. Louis native faced the judge’s stern gaze after being caught selling a .38 caliber S&W revolver and 1.9 grams of crack cocaine to an undercover operative on June 3, 2013.
This isn’t Davis’ first brush with the law; he was previously convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, a crime that adds another layer of severity to his latest conviction.
The sentencing judge did not mince words in ordering the forfeiture of the firearm and ammunition seized during the investigation. The punishment also includes 3 years of supervised release, a $200 special assessment, and a fine totaling $500.
United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, had this to say: ‘The sentence imposed today should serve as a stark reminder that illegal gun possession and drug trafficking will not be tolerated in our community.’
The investigation leading to Davis’ conviction was a collaborative effort, with members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) playing a pivotal role. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark prosecuted the case with diligence.
