Jane Doe, 69, of Bradenton, Florida, is headed to federal prison after admitting she built a false life on a fake passport. Judge Daniel Hovland slapped Doe with a 15-month sentence this week for a complex fraud scheme that siphoned off over $184,904.75 in government funds. The scam ran for years, starting sometime before December 2025, when Doe finally pleaded guilty.
Prosecutors detailed how Doe used the fraudulent ID to snag SNAP benefits from the Department of Agriculture, and disability payments from the Social Security Administration. She didn’t report income she earned, and continued to collect full payments even when she wasn’t entitled to them. It was a classic case of brazen entitlement, according to sources close to the investigation.
The bust was a multi-agency effort, spearheaded by the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), along with the Social Security Administration’s Inspector General, Homeland Security Investigations, the USDA’s Inspector General, and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Inspector General. They traced the bogus passport and the flow of funds, eventually building a solid case against Doe.
U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the sentence, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting taxpayer dollars. Doe will also be on the hook to repay the entire $184,904.75 she illegally pocketed, ordered as restitution by the court. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ilyssa M. Spergel and Suzanne C. Nebesky handled the prosecution and forfeiture, respectively.
