James Files 15 Lawsuits in First 100 Days of Trump Era

New York – The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has thrown its considerable legal weight against the Trump administration, marking the first 100 days with a barrage of lawsuits and amicus briefs aimed at dismantling illegal policies. Since January 20th, Attorney General Letitia James has led the charge by filing and joining 15 lawsuits and 22 amicus briefs in collaboration with Democratic state attorneys general.

‘We will not allow this administration to trample our Constitution, strip Americans of their fundamental rights, and dismantle critical services that millions rely on daily,’ Attorney General James declared. ‘We have halted some of their most unconstitutional policies and are far from done. If they continue to disregard the law, we will be there every step of the way.’

Key victories include:

  • Ending Birthright Citizenship: A lawsuit by Attorney General James on January 21st blocked President Trump’s executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship, securing a preliminary injunction upheld by the First Circuit.
  • Freezing Federal Funds: On January 28th, Attorney General James led a lawsuit to stop the administration’s attempt to freeze federal funding, winning a temporary restraining order and restoring billions in critical funding.
  • Granting DOGE Access to U.S. Treasury Systems: A coalition led by Attorney General James on February 7th successfully blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing sensitive payment systems at the Treasury Department.

Other notable actions include lawsuits against NIH policy cuts, teacher training grants, federal worker firings, and dismantling the Department of Education. James has also secured court orders restoring public health funding and protecting election integrity.
