Former Washington State Prison inmate Kenneth Randle Door faced a 25-year sentence in U.S. District Court for Tacoma, Washington, after being labeled an Armed Career Criminal. The sentencing comes after Door was caught leading a tax fraud scheme from behind bars.
Door’s extensive criminal history includes over 30 felony convictions, including assault with a deadly weapon for shooting at police officers and numerous burglary convictions. U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan called the sentence necessary to protect the public.
In November 2011, Door was arrested on community supervision, found with two firearms, two bullet-proof vests, and an explosive device at his Tacoma home. He pleaded guilty but later went to trial, where he was found guilty after a four-day jury trial.
Door will also be sentenced for a separate tax fraud scheme while incarcerated at the Washington State Penitentiary. Between 2008 and 2009, Door and other conspirators filed at least 31 false tax returns, attempting to obtain more than $145,000 in refunds. The conspirators obtained nearly $72,000.
DOOR’s co-conspirators have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from eight months to 33 months. The IRS-CI and ATF investigated the cases, with Assistant United States Attorneys Steven Masada and Norman Barbosa handling the prosecution.
