Luna College Hit with Sex Harassment Lawsuit

Feds file explosive lawsuit against Luna Community College in New Mexico for failing to protect Charlene Ortiz-Cordova from sexual harassment by a supervisor.

Ortiz-Cordova, a former employee, claims she faced months of unwanted advances and lewd comments that created an intolerable work environment.

The college’s ex-president is accused of the harassment, which included physical contact and explicit remarks. Luna College is charged with neglecting to take proper action to stop the abuse.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Grace Chung Becker warns, ‘Title VII is clear: Employers must act against sexual harassment.’ Federal prosecutors vow to seek justice for Ortiz-Cordova.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act bans discrimination based on sex and protects employees who report such practices. Luna’s failure to comply with these laws marks their first Title VII suit in 2009, after filing twelve suits last year.
