New Orleans, LA – Erin Alonzo, 28, is facing a potential life sentence after a federal indictment revealed a significant drug operation and an illegal weapons cache. Prosecutors allege Alonzo was peddling a deadly mix of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine – at least 40 grams worth – on the city’s streets.
The bust wasn’t just about narcotics. Authorities seized a Glock .40, a Palmetto State Armory AR-style pistol, and a Makarov 9mm from Alonzo. The Glock, illegally modified with a conversion device, turned it into a fully automatic machinegun, dramatically escalating the charges.
This isn’t Alonzo’s first run-in with the law. Court records show a prior felony conviction for obstructing a homicide investigation, meaning he was already prohibited from possessing firearms. The combined charges – drug trafficking, illegal gun possession, and possessing an unregistered machinegun – carry a minimum of five years and a maximum of life in prison, plus potential fines exceeding $5 million.
The case highlights the ongoing struggle against both the opioid crisis and illegal firearms circulating in New Orleans. Alonzo remains in custody awaiting trial.
