NY AG Prevails in Wind Energy Blockade Suit

New York – In a decisive victory for clean energy advocates, New York Attorney General Letitia James today hailed the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts’ ruling against the Trump administration’s illegal blockade on wind energy development.

“As New Yorkers grapple with soaring energy costs, we need more sources of power, not fewer,” AG James stated in a triumphant release. “Wind energy is crucial for our environment, economy, and communities. I am grateful the court has stopped this administration’s reckless and illegal campaign against renewable energy.”

In May, Attorney General James led a coalition of 17 other state attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to block a presidential directive that suspended all federal approvals for wind energy projects. The coalition argued that the directive was an unlawful overreach of executive power.

Today’s ruling marked a significant victory for the coalition, as the court declared the directive illegal and vacated the order. The decision sends a strong message about the importance of upholding environmental regulations and the right to develop clean energy sources.

The lawsuit was seen as a test case for the ability of state attorneys general to challenge executive actions that undermine environmental protection and renewable energy initiatives. AG James’ leadership in this litigation has been crucial in protecting New York’s interests and advancing the cause of clean energy across the nation.

This landmark ruling is expected to have far-reaching implications, potentially paving the way for further legal challenges against similar overreaches by federal officials. The environmental community has praised AG James for her dedication to defending renewable energy projects and ensuring a cleaner future for New York and the country.
