New York – The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has launched an investigation into the tragic death of Bravo Nondo, who was struck and killed by an off-duty NYPD officer on December 18, 2025, in Nanuet, Rockland County.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. when the officer, driving his personal vehicle, was merging onto the New York State Thruway southbound at Exit 14. Mr. Nondo, having exited a stopped car, was fatally struck by the vehicle. The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene. The off-duty officer was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
Pursuant to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI is obligated to assess every reported incident involving potential police or peace officer involvement in a fatality. This law extends to on-duty and off-duty officers, regardless of the status of the deceased person. In this case, the OSI is now conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Nondo’s death.
These are preliminary facts and subject to change as the OSI delves deeper into the matter.
The New York Attorney General’s Office emphasizes that while initial reports may vary, they are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served in such tragic incidents.
This probe marks yet another investigation involving off-duty law enforcement officers, raising concerns about the potential for misuse of authority even outside of duty hours. The OSI’s thorough examination of this case will be closely watched by both local residents and across the state.
