New York – A harrowing incident in West Seneca, Erie County, has prompted the New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) to launch a probe. The OSI is looking into the death of Paul Alvarez, who tragically lost his life on December 18, 2025, after being struck by an off-duty Cheektowaga Police Department (CPD) officer.
The deadly collision occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. when the officer was driving west on Clinton Street. The pedestrian, Mr. Alvarez, was transported to a local hospital but pronounced dead upon arrival.
Pursuant to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI is obligated to assess every incident where an officer or peace officer may have caused a death. This includes whether the officer was on-duty or off-duty, and if the deceased was armed or unarmed, in custody, or incarcerated. The OSI’s investigation into this incident will be thorough and comprehensive.
These are preliminary facts, and the OSI has emphasized that they are subject to change as new information comes to light.
The Erie County community is on edge following this tragedy, with many demanding answers. The public remains hopeful for a swift and thorough investigation by the AG’s OSI to ensure justice is served.
