Muskogee, Oklahoma – In a harsh blow against methamphetamine distribution in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, MAURICE ELON EDWARDS, 28, of Spencer, has been sentenced to 262 months imprisonment followed by four years of supervised release. The sentence was handed down for Edwards’ role in Possession of Controlled Substances with Intent to Distribute, violating multiple sections of U.S. Code.
The sentencing follows a thorough investigation by the McAlester Police Department, the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department, and the DEA-Drug Task Force. Edwards was indicted in January 2013 and found guilty by a federal jury in September 2013, alongside co-defendant ANTHONY DEXTER WASHINGTON, II, also known as Tony Washington.
According to trial evidence, on or about January 14, 2012, in McAlester, the defendants conspired to possess and distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, along with marijuana, a Schedule I substance. The investigation led to their conviction.
The Honorable Ronald A. White presided over the hearing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee. Edwards will remain under the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service until transferred to the designated federal prison where he will serve his nonparolable sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Waters represented the United States during the trial. This sentencing underscores the federal government’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in Oklahoma.
