Three Sentenced in FL Identity Theft Scam

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE – In a stunning turn of events, the final three defendants in a sprawling identity theft ring have been sentenced for their roles in one of the largest such schemes in Florida history. Kawana Brown, 35, Elton Baker, 29, and Eltonya Wiley, 40, were all handed down prison terms following guilty pleas to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and other charges.

Brown was slammed with a sentence of 102 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release. Baker received 65 months, and Wiley was sentenced to 42 months, both accompanied by three years of supervision. The trio also faces a restitution order totaling $122,075.21.

According to authorities, the scheme, which involved stealing patient identities from a Florida medical facility, was used to file fraudulent tax returns and obtain credit cards for fraudulent purchases. Ringleader Jennifer Robinson, who previously faced 121 months in prison, awaits a restitution hearing set for July 25th.

In addition to Brown, Baker, and Wiley, Antoinette Simmons and Josh Brown were sentenced to probation for their involvement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Carlton is handling the prosecution of the case, with commendations going out to IRS-CI and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for their investigative work.
