GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Anthony Dexter Washington, II, also known as Tony Washington, 28, of Oklahoma City, has been hit with a 140-month federal prison sentence for his role in a major drug distribution ring. This grim sentence comes after Washington was convicted on charges of Possession of Controlled Substances with Intent to Distribute, violating multiple sections of Title 21 and Title 18 of the United States Code.
Washington’s conviction stems from a joint investigation by the McAlester Police Department, the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration – Drug Task Force. He was indicted in January 2013 and found guilty by a federal jury in September 2013, alongside his co-defendant Maurice Elon Edwards.
The trial evidence revealed that on or about January 14, 2012, Washington and Edwards aided each other in the unlawful possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, along with marijuana, a Schedule I substance. The duo’s actions were a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Oklahoma.
Judge Ronald A. White presided over the sentencing hearing in Muskogee, and Washington will remain in U.S. Marshal Service custody until transported to a federal prison to serve his nonparolable sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Waters represented the United States in this pivotal case.
Washington’s sentence is a stern message to those who would profit from the illegal drug trade. The Oklahoma City man’s fall from grace serves as a cautionary tale for others considering a life of crime.
