Gregory Hines and Deontra Paige, both 19 years old from Jackson, Mississippi, have been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for their role in a brazen armed carjacking.
The duo’s crime shocked the community when they confronted a husband and wife at their residence on February 6, 2016. The victims were returning home when Paige approached the wife with a firearm, demanding her Bible and keys to their vehicle.
Despite the terrifying encounter, the husband managed to retrieve the keys and toss them to the defendants. Unbeknownst to them, they were being watched as Jackson Police Department officers later apprehended Hines and Paige in the drive-thru of a Burger King on Terry Road.
The officers also recovered the weapons used in the heist, ensuring that no further harm could come to the public.
In addition to their 60-month sentences, Hines and Paige must serve three years of supervised release following their prison term. They have also been ordered to pay a fine of $1,500.
This case was diligently investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, in collaboration with the Jackson Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr., handled the prosecution.
