GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Daniel John Pye, a former Arkansas resident, has been apprehended and charged with traveling internationally to engage in illicit sexual conduct with minors, according to federal prosecutors.
Pye, 35, is accused of frequenting Haiti between 2008 and 2011, where he operated a missionary orphanage. He stands charged under Title 18, United States Code, Section 2423(b), for his alleged actions against minor female children at the orphanage.
Following his time in Haiti, Pye is believed to have moved between Liberty Hill, Texas; Texarkana, Texas; and Ashdown, Arkansas. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) led this investigation.
Public officials are urging citizens to report any suspicious activity or suspected child predators to ICE-HSI via the toll-free Tip Line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE, or by filling out an online tip form at https://www.ice.gov/webform/hsi-tip-form.
Wifredo A. Ferrer, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, commended the investigative efforts of ICE-HSI and expressed gratitude to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for their support. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Widlanski is handling the prosecution.
