Iris Mira Probkevitz Accused in South Florida Immigration Fraud Scheme

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Iris Mira Probkevitz, 57, and Jose Antonio Polledo Alfonso, 50, are facing federal charges in what authorities describe as a ruthless immigration fraud scheme targeting vulnerable undocumented aliens in South Florida.

The duo is accused of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, along with numerous counts of actual fraud. They’re alleged to have preyed on immigrants by promising them illegal immigration benefits and then demanding exorbitant fees for their services, often threatening them if they refused to comply.

Probkevitz and Polledo Alfonso are said to have posed as employees of the USCIS and even the FBI, further adding to the deception. In some cases, they submitted fraudulent applications on behalf of immigrants and then controlled their mail from USCIS, charging them for each piece of correspondence.

According to authorities, the scheme involved not only financial exploitation but also psychological manipulation. When one undocumented alien, identified as ‘R.H.H.’, complained about the defendants’ demands, they responded with threats. This case is a stark reminder of the dangers facing immigrants seeking legal status in the United States.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, along with ICE-HSI and USCIS, has vowed to crack down on such fraudulent activities, urging immigrants to be wary of ‘notario’ fraudsters who prey on their vulnerabilities. Probkevitz and Polledo Alfonso’s case is now pending in Case No. 14-20036-Cr-Martinez.

GRIMY TIMES will continue to follow this developing story as it unfolds.
