Levine Death Footage Unveiled by NY AG

New York Attorney General Letitia James has released graphic body-worn camera footage from the investigation into the death of David Levine, who succumbed to injuries on April 9 following an encounter with New York State Police (NYSP) in Saratoga County.

The chilling video captures Mr. Levine, armed with a gun, ignoring commands to drop the weapon during his confrontation with troopers. The footage shows Mr. Levine pointing the gun at a trooper, prompting NYSP officers to fire their weapons, ultimately resulting in Mr. Levine’s death. Troopers recovered a firearm from the scene.

The Office of Special Investigation (OSI) of the Attorney General’s Office is responsible for assessing such incidents under New York State Executive Law Section 70-b. The law mandates an investigation when an officer may have caused someone’s death by any act or omission, on-duty or off-duty, regardless of the circumstances.

The release of the footage does not indicate any opinion regarding guilt or innocence in a criminal matter nor whether anyone will be charged with a crime. However, it is important to note that these videos contain disturbing content and are intended for mature audiences only.

Attorney General James has emphasized the release of such footage as part of her office’s commitment to transparency, aiming to strengthen public trust in matters concerning law enforcement.
