The probe centers around a tragic incident that occurred on May 27, 2025, when a civilian lost his life following a collision with an off-duty Colonie Police Department (CPD) officer.

That evening, as darkness settled over Old Loudon Road in Latham, the hamlet’s tranquil atmosphere was shattered by a vehicle. The civilian, whose name has not been publicly disclosed, was walking along the road when he was struck by the car driven by an off-duty CPD officer. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where despite heroic efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on June 2, 2025.
