Sergio Heredia Sentenced for Cocaine Trafficking by Los Zetas

San Antonio’s gritty streets saw justice served as 44-year-old Sergio Heredia, alias ‘Keko’ and ‘Sobrino,’ was sentenced to a daunting 15 years in federal prison for his role in the Los Zetas Cartel’s cocaine trafficking operation.

Heredia had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, having conspired with others from January 2007 to May 2015 to distribute over five kilograms of cocaine across the United States. The evidence against him was conclusive, detailing his involvement in drug and money laundering networks that spanned San Antonio, Fort Worth, and beyond.

This operation was a testament to Heredia’s dedication to the Cartel; together with sources like 34-year-old Walter Jacobo, they trafficked over 180,000 pounds of marijuana, hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, and more than $18 million in US currency. They also possessed dozens of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The investigation led by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) was a massive success, resulting in the conviction of 18 individuals on federal charges. Twelve have been sentenced, with six still awaiting punishment. Sentences range from 20 years to probation, and Jacobo himself was handed a ten-year sentence plus five years of supervised release.

Today’s sentencing is the latest victory for law enforcement agencies such as the DEA, HSI, IRS-CI, San Antonio Police Department, Hollywood Park Police Department, and Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Their high-intensity mission to disrupt drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and money laundering operations has been a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration.

The OCDETF program is the backbone of this effort, identifying and dismantling the most serious criminal enterprises responsible for illegal drug supplies in America.
