ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Joshua Woodbury, a 27-year-old resident of Rochester, pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of child pornography, a crime that could see him spending the next two decades behind bars and paying a quarter of a million dollars in fines.
The plea comes after an extensive investigation by the FBI led to the discovery of explicit content involving prepubescent minors at Woodbury’s Patrician Drive residence. Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr., announced the charges against Woodbury, who now faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig R. Gestring detailed how an FBI agent, working undercover, traced video files containing child pornography to Woodbury’s IP address. The investigation revealed that Woodbury not only accessed illegal content from his own home but also utilized his neighbor’s wireless internet to download more explicit material.
Further analysis of Woodbury’s cellular telephone yielded multiple videos depicting prepubescent children engaged in sexual activity, further solidifying the charges against him. Despite the residents of an apartment on Spanish Trail denying any involvement with child pornography, evidence linked the defendant to the complex through his high-tech methods.
The plea is part of a broader investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, directed by Special Agent-in-Charge Adam S. Cohen. Sentencing for Woodbury has been scheduled for June 27, 2017, at 9:15 a.m., before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.
