Abusive Sexual Contact Lands 66yo Iowa Man 27 Years in Prison
Douglas Hennigar, 66, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for his role in Abusive Sexual Contact on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
The Abusive Acts
Hennigar was accused of abusing two female children, aged 5-10, who lived with their grandmother on the reservation. The abuse, which spanned multiple years, began in 2010 after Hennigar moved in with the children’s grandmother, whom he met through social media.
The youngest victim, who was just 5 years old at the time, didn’t reveal the abuse until she was 14 years old. The children were left in the care of their grandmother, who struggled to provide for them.
Justice Served
Senior District Judge Karen E. Schreier handed down the sentence on May 16, 2024, following Hennigar’s guilty plea on March 15, 2024. The charges against him included Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Abusive Sexual Contact.
Hennigar was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and will serve 10 years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
The Investigation and Prosecution
The case was investigated by the FBI, with U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen leading the prosecution. Hennigar was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
The harsh sentence serves as a reminder that those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our society will face severe consequences. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
