Man Pleads Guilty in Stolen Vehicle Trafficking Case

A Maryland man has been found guilty of conspiring to transport stolen vehicles across state lines, according to federal court documents.

Rodney D. Deminds, Jr., 23, of Belcamp, Md., pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to transport stolen motor vehicles across state lines before United States District Judge Terrence F. McVerry.

The charge stems from an investigation that revealed Deminds, along with co-conspirators Harvey Leemore, Collin D. Powell, Trea C. Powell, and at least one other individual, stole motorcycles and tractors from retail dealerships in Pennsylvania and Virginia between July 2011 and April 2012.

On at least 14 occasions, the group would travel from Baltimore, Md., to various dealerships in Pennsylvania and Virginia, steal the vehicles, and then sell them in Baltimore. The stolen vehicles were valued at over $200,000.

The investigation was conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police, Western PA Auto Theft Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and detectives from Harford County, Maryland.

Assistant United States Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

Deminds is scheduled to be sentenced on August 15, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. and faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
