Blood on the Tracks: Boxcar Murder Rocks North Dakota

In a brazen and brutal attack, two masked men stormed a boxcar on the Northern Pacific eastbound freight near Wyndmere, North Dakota, leaving one young man dead and two others shaken. The victim, 23-year-old August Rimbquist, a harvest hand from Spencer, Iowa, refused to surrender to the robbers, prompting one of the men to fire a fatal shot. The bullet struck Rimbquist in the chest, dropping him lifeless on the floor of the boxcar. The other two men, reportedly Rimbquist’s companions, complied with the robbers’ demands, handing over what little money and valuables they possessed. The thieves then jumped from the train, leaving the body of Rimbquist and the terrorized survivors behind. The crime scene was discovered when the train arrived at Wyndmere, and an investigation was promptly launched.
