In the midst of the roaring twenties, a peculiar phenomenon swept through the city’s nightlife. By February 1929, the once-thriving theaters of New York had seemingly fallen on hard times, and the nightclubs were said to be on their last legs. But the town’s late-night revelers needn’t have worried, for a temporary depression had merely taken hold.
