Army Sergeant Convicted of Wife’s Murder

Baltimore, Maryland – In a shocking verdict, a federal jury has convicted Army Sergeant Maliek Kearney of domestic violence resulting in the death of his wife, Karlyn Ramirez. The conviction comes after an 11-day trial that exposed the dark reality of Kearney’s crime.

According to the evidence presented at trial, Kearney, 37, of San Antonio, Texas, shot his wife three times, killing her on August 24, 2015. The brutal murder took place at the couple’s off-post residence in Severn, Maryland, where their four-month-old daughter was left in her mother’s arms.

The evidence showed that Kearney had recently separated from Ramirez and had been ordered to stay away from her by a protective order. However, Kearney defied the order and traveled from South Carolina to Maryland to commit the murder. His girlfriend, Delores Delgado, 33, of San Antonio, Texas, provided the firearm used in the crime and helped Kearney to dispose of evidence afterwards.

Delgado had previously pled guilty to interstate travel to commit domestic violence resulting in death and is scheduled to be sentenced on September 7, 2018. Kearney faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on November 16, 2018.

The conviction is a result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, and the Anne Arundel County Police Department. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making communities safer.

Kearney’s conviction sends a strong message that domestic violence will not be tolerated, and those who commit such heinous crimes will be held accountable. The Grimy Times sends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Karlyn Ramirez, who lost their lives to such a senseless act of violence.

As the investigation continues, it is clear that Kearney’s actions were a result of a pattern of domestic violence. The case highlights the importance of taking domestic violence seriously and providing support to victims and their families.
