VALDOSTA, GA – Wesley White, Sr., a 39-year-old Valdosta resident known on the streets as “Westside,” will spend the next 16 years (200 months) behind bars after being sentenced on May 5, 2014, for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. The sentence, handed down by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Hugh Lawson, marks a significant blow to the flow of narcotics in South Georgia.
White pleaded guilty on January 13, 2014, admitting to a June 3, 2013, raid on his Valdosta home. The search warrant execution revealed a full-scale drug operation operating right out of his residence. Investigators weren’t finding crumbs – they found a bakery of illicit substances.
The raid unearthed six “cookies” of crack cocaine neatly packaged in sandwich bags, alongside seven bags of powder cocaine. But White wasn’t limiting his inventory. A gallon-sized bag of marijuana and a fully operational cocaine press, still containing residue, were discovered in the kitchen. The living room yielded two quart-sized bags of marijuana, precise digital scales for weighing the product, and a hefty $1216.00 in cash – the profits of a dirty business.
U.S. Attorney Michael Moore didn’t mince words. “Every time we are able to get a drug dealer off our streets, it is proof that the cooperation between local and federal law enforcement agencies is working,” Moore stated. “With this lengthy sentence, we can take some comfort in knowing that at least one source of crack cocaine will be dried up for a very long time.” A comforting thought for a city plagued by the scourge of addiction.
The case is the culmination of years of dedicated work by the FBI Southwest Georgia Gang Task Force, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division, the Valdosta Police Department, and the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Robert D. McCullers skillfully prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, ensuring White faced justice for his crimes.
This conviction serves as a stark reminder that drug trafficking carries severe consequences.
