PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Jennine M. Prince, 42, of Valencia, Pennsylvania, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 15 months incarceration for systematically stealing from Office Based Anesthesia Solutions, Inc. (OBAS). U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab also ordered Prince to pay $66,443.50 in restitution, a pittance considering her history, according to sources.
The sentencing comes while Prince was already on pretrial release for a separate, far larger embezzlement case involving the Ironworkers Local 3. That earlier theft allegedly totaled around $500,000. Apparently, a slap on the wrist in one jurisdiction isn’t enough to deter this woman. Sources close to the investigation suggest Prince views these crimes as a victimless hustle.
Prince was employed by OBAS in Cranberry, PA, from May 2010 until September 29, 2011, when her brazen scheme was discovered. Her job was simple: make bank deposits of patient co-payments. Instead, she treated the company’s funds as her personal ATM, pocketing cash daily. The scheme continued for over a year before anyone noticed the missing funds.
“This isn’t a case of desperation,” stated a source within the U.S. Attorney’s office, speaking on condition of anonymity. “This is calculated theft, committed by someone who clearly thinks she’s smarter than everyone else. The fact she was already facing charges in another embezzlement case makes it even more egregious.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nelson P. Cohen led the prosecution, building a solid case that highlighted Prince’s pattern of deceit. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted the investigation, which U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton lauded as a success. However, critics question whether 15 months is a sufficient penalty for a repeat offender who shows no remorse.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case, and others like it, exposing the rot that festers within the financial systems of this country. This sentence sends a message, but whether it’s a strong enough message to deter others remains to be seen. Prince’s actions demonstrate a disturbing lack of accountability and a callous disregard for the victims of her crimes.
