Timothy Ryan Gets 157 Months for Child Porn Crimes

Timothy Ryan, 32, of South Bend, Indiana, is headed to federal prison for 157 months after being convicted of distributing, receiving, and possessing child pornography—a grim chapter in a case rooted in digital depravity.

Ryan was sentenced by South Bend District Court Judge Robert Miller, capping a prosecution led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana. The announcement came from U.S. Attorney David Capp, who confirmed the sentence and underscored the severity of Ryan’s crimes against the most vulnerable.

A jury found Ryan guilty on all counts on June 14, 2015, after evidence emerged linking him directly to the distribution of illicit material. The trail began when an undercover officer downloaded child pornography in February 2015 from a computer tied to Ryan’s residence, triggering a full-scale federal probe.

In May 2015, agents executed a search of Ryan’s home. They seized a computer containing graphic child sexual abuse material—digital evidence that became the cornerstone of the government’s case. The discovery confirmed what investigators had long suspected: Ryan was not just a passive consumer, but an active participant in a network of exploitation.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, agencies that continue to prioritize such offenses in northern Indiana. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John M. Maciejczyk, who called the sentence a measure of justice for the victims.

Ryan will serve 157 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. Federal authorities warn that even a single image of child pornography represents real abuse—and they’re cracking down hard on those who fuel the market for it.
