A shocking crime has shaken the small town of Lewis County, West Virginia, as Ryan Ashley Hubbs, 37, of Paris, Ohio, has been indicted on federal charges involving a carjacking and firearms, U.S. Attorney Bill Powell announced.
Hubbs is facing one count of “Unlawful Possession of Firearm,” one count of “Carjacking,” and one count of “Use of Firearm During Crime of Violence.” The charges stem from an incident in October 2016, where Hubbs allegedly used a .380 caliber pistol to steal a Honda CR-V.
According to the indictment, Hubbs, who is prohibited from having a firearm because of a previous crime, could face severe penalties for his actions. He faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for the unlawful possession and carjacking charges. Additionally, he faces no less than seven years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for the violence crime charge.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Wagner is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, in collaboration with the Lewis County Sheriff Office and the Weston Police Department.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of the community. The use of a firearm during the commission of a crime is a serious offense, and the authorities are taking a strong stance against such violent behavior. The case will be closely watched as it progresses through the court system.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The case against Ryan Ashley Hubbs will be decided in a court of law, where the evidence will be presented and the facts will be weighed. The outcome of the case will depend on the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public is crucial in preventing and solving crimes. As the case against Ryan Ashley Hubbs moves forward, the people of Lewis County and surrounding areas will be watching closely, hoping for justice to be served.
