McKeesport Felon Yadell Eric Jones Cuffed for Gun Possession

Yadell Eric Jones, 49, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, is staring down a federal prison bid after being indicted on charges of illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The one-count indictment, handed up by a Pittsburgh federal grand jury, alleges Jones had a gun on or about October 26, 2021—a direct violation of U.S. law.

Federal law bans anyone convicted of a felony from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition. Jones, already branded by past convictions, now faces the full weight of that statute. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years behind bars, fined $250,000, or both. Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman confirmed the charges, underscoring the zero-tolerance stance on illegal gun possession. “Individuals with felony convictions don’t get a pass when it comes to firearms,” Kaufman said. “This is not a gray area—it’s a federal crime, plain and simple.”

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas C. Maloney, who is building the government’s case against Jones with evidence gathered during a targeted investigation. No additional charges were filed at this time, but prosecutors are not ruling out further developments.

The Drug Enforcement Agency led the probe that culminated in the indictment, signaling federal agencies are tightening the screws on gun crimes in Western Pennsylvania. The agency has increased collaboration with local law enforcement to intercept weapons in high-crime areas, particularly when felons are involved.
