Devonne L. Walker, 36, of Lady Lake, Florida, is going away for 25 years after being sentenced for leading one of the most extensive drug trafficking operations seen in Lake County in recent years. U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. handed down the sentence after Walker pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances — a charge that barely scratches the surface of his criminal enterprise.
From 2018 to 2019, Walker ran a cross-state narcotics pipeline, directing accomplices in Phoenix, Arizona to ship parcels packed with illegal drugs straight to central Florida. Authorities say he imported more than 100 kilograms of methamphetamine, over 50 kilograms of cocaine, more than 1 kilogram of heroin, and over 50 kilograms of marijuana — a lethal arsenal of substances funneled into the Middle District of Florida for street-level distribution.
Walker wasn’t just moving weight — he was running a command center. Federal investigators say he orchestrated every stage of the operation, from ordering shipments to managing a network of dealers. His arrest on June 25, 2021, in Leesburg by Lake County Sheriff’s deputies revealed the depth of his operation: officers found a stolen firearm, more than 260 grams of methamphetamine, over 80 grams of fentanyl — enough to kill hundreds — and additional quantities of marijuana and cocaine.
The case, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, exposed a tightly organized syndicate with connections stretching from Arizona to central Florida. The U.S. Postal Service Inspection Service played a key role in tracking the narcotics shipments, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives helped trace the firearm. Homeland Security Investigations provided critical intelligence linking Walker to his co-conspirators.
Two of Walker’s associates have already been charged in the same indictment. One has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing; the other is set to stand trial in January 2022. A fourth co-conspirator, charged separately, has also pleaded guilty and is awaiting judgment. Prosecutors say the investigation continues to dismantle the network’s remaining links.
Assistant United States Attorney Michael P. Felicetta prosecuted the case, calling Walker the ringleader of a dangerous and sophisticated drug ring. ‘This sentence reflects the severity of the threat he posed to our communities,’ Felicetta said. ‘Walker flooded neighborhoods with poison and armed himself with stolen weapons. Justice demanded no less than a quarter-century behind bars.’
