Stephone Bridges Indicted

A federal grand jury has indicted Stephone Bridges, age 32, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. This charge stems from an incident on or about August 15, 2021, where Bridges was found to be in possession of a Glock semi-automatic pistol.

According to U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans, Bridges was charged on November 19, 2021, in a one-count indictment. If convicted, Bridges faces up to ten (10) years imprisonment, followed by up to three (3) years of supervised release, up to a $250,000.00 fine, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.

The case against Bridges is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program. This program is the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts and has been proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Rachal Cassagne is in charge of the prosecution.

The PSN program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime. This approach has been shown to be effective in reducing violent crime and improving community safety. By targeting the most violent offenders, such as Bridges, law enforcement agencies can help to prevent future crimes and make communities safer.

The indictment of Stephone Bridges is a significant step in the efforts to reduce violent crime in New Orleans. The city has struggled with high rates of violent crime in recent years, and the PSN program is an important part of the solution. By working together, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies can help to make New Orleans a safer place for everyone. As the case against Bridges moves forward, it will be important to watch for developments and see how the prosecution unfolds.
